Interesting Copyright Case - artist decides to release film under free license


I thought this was an interesting case. Animator/artist Nina Paley ran into copyright issues (charges of over $50,000) because her critically acclaimed animated film "Sita Sings the Blues" uses a song by 1920's singer Annette Hanshaw. . . As the article states, "although the recordings are out of copyright, the compositions themselves are still restricted." She ended up paying them off and releasing the film under a free license.
